The Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) is the largest independent, nonprofit healthcare research organization in Zambia and aims to improve access to quality health care through innovative capacity development, exceptional implementation of science and research, and impactful and sustainable public health programs.

CIDRZ has partnered with the Ministry of Health in Zambia to reach health­care milestones and sustainable development goals through its technical expertise, service delivery and operational infrastructure.

Priding itself on high-caliber clinical and research programs that provide credible evidence for decision-making, CIDRZ has one of the largest state-of-the-art medical and research diagnostic laboratories in sub-Saharan Africa. Supporting HIV care and treatment, the laboratory conducts more than 1 million routine patient laboratory tests and is accredited by the US National Institutes of Health Division of AIDS certification for research trials.

CIDRZ is supported by many funders including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the Center for Disease Control through funding from the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.

Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) is an independent Zambian non-profit company, registered as a non-governmental organization and governed by a majority Zambian Board of Directors that is committed to answering key research questions relevant to Zambia and the region. It supports the financial, and technical local ownership of high quality, complementary and integrated healthcare services within the Zambian public health system, and facilitates clinical, research and professional development training. Through close and on-going collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Zambia's Ministry of Health and other line Ministries, and by partnering with multiple leading local and international universities, it ensures that the latest research methodologies are used to answer locally-relevant questions to improve healthcare delivery. CIDRZ runs several fellowship programmes that are aimed at building capacity of Zambian researchers to participate in finding solutions to health challenges.
