Ricardo is working as a Life Sciences Investment Analyst at Portugal Ventures. He has 10+ years of experience as a biomedical researcher, having previously worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2006-2008) and Harvard University (2009-2015). He carried out his PhD work at the Harvard Medical School where he generated the first genome-wide map of miR-200c target genes, a microRNA involved in embryogenesis and cancer. His research has been published in journals such as Oncogene (Nature Publishing Group), Journal of Clinical Investigation and Biotechnology Progress. He was awarded a fellowship from the Portuguese Ministry of Science and Technology. He was selected to participate in the Novartis International Biotechnology Leadership Camp and in the Harvard Mini-MBA Program. He holds a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from the University of Lisbon and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the New University of Lisbon.
